High School FAQ
  • How do I start planning my child’s High School education? Start with a four year plan using the form posted on our website. The plan is something that can be changed as you  begin to develop your child’s interests. Our high school coordinator, Samantha Folse, can help you with your plan.
  • What constitutes a credit? A Carnegie credit constitutes 170 hours of study or completing 80% of your textbook.
  • Where do I find curriculum? There are several great sources on the web. Rainbow Resource has a fairly comprehensive collection of curriculums from Bob Jones, ABeka and many more. Once again, The high School coordinator is happy to help.
  • How can I possibly teach higher math?  If you are concerned about math, don’t be. The curriculums available make it much easier to teach. There are video programs with a professor and homework help.
  • What about science? There are many great curriculums out there, but Apologia science is my favorite. It offers a full range of sciences with dissections (frog, fish, pig etc.) and experiments. There is also a Microscope slide set available with the Biology texts.
  • What are the core courses required for graduation?  We require Bible, English, Math, Science, History/Social Studies, for every year that you are enrolled in our school. Our diploma programs also include requirements for such things as foreign language, computer science, fine arts etc. For more information on the Diploma Programs offered at HCS, please see our handbook
  • What about testing? Your textbooks and teacher manuals will provide tests which you will then score yourself. We require the ACT to be taken at least once during high school but recommend two to three times for the best results. Your test scores will be sent directly to you . Go to ACT.org to register.
  • Will my child be able to go to college? YES!! Your child will be able to go to college just like any other graduate. Our recommendation is that you begin applying during the end of the junior year with the process reaching completing by the end of September of the Senior year so that you can focus on financial aid.
  • What about scholarships and financial aid? Colleges will award home-schooled students scholarships and financial aid. Your high school coordinator will be happy to guide you through the process. Start early, many deadlines are December of the junior year and most others are December of the Senior year.
  •  What about graduation? Our school offers a full graduation ceremony for our graduates each year. For more information, please visit  the graduation page on our website.
  •  I’m still confused. Contact our high school coordinator, Sam Folse, at sjfolse@centurytel.net and she  will be happy to talk to you.
  •  Can you recommend a website that will help me understand more about home schooling? Please visit http:// www.HSLDA.org for tons of information on home schooling your child.
